Direct-to-Grower Independent Seed Company Launched
A direct-to-growers seed company is entering the market with the mission of providing growers with custom-crafted seed offerings delivered right to the farm.
Local Seed Company, headquartered in Memphis, TN, is an independent company that will offer a diverse portfolio of competitive, quality products and genetics at the local level. Growers will have access to diverse germplasm and traits options in cotton, corn, soybean, wheat, rice and cover crops selected through locally-focused research and development.
The company will service growers throughout the Southeast, Mid-South, Northeast, Delmarva and Atlantic Coastal regions.
The formation of Local Seed Company is the result of majority investments in Dulaney Seed, based in Clarksdale, MS, and T.A. Seeds, located in Jersey Shore, PA. The company will maintain operations at both locations, with capital improvements and expansions planned in the near future.
“The Local Seed Company direct-to-grower business model is a bit unique in some areas of the country,” stated Charles Michell, industry veteran and company CEO. “The best way to provide our customers the absolute best seed offerings is by locally testing and selecting products that are sold directly to growers. Our seedsmen will understand growers’ fields and management practices with the goal of creating value for all parties. Our mission statement is ‘Quality Crafted with Care,’ and we will live by this statement every day.”
“The ag industry is changing every day, and we must keep up with those changes,” said Taylor Doebler, previous owner of T.A. Seeds. “Our customers are our most important investment, and we felt this opportunity with Local Seed Company was the ideal business decision that will benefit both us as a company and our farmer/dealer customers.”
Terry Dulaney added, “Providing our customers all of the technology benefits of the national industry while having that local, personally prescribed solution for each customer is what we’re striving for every day, and now we have the additional resources to do that.”
Michell will lead Local Seed Company as CEO, supported by Chism Craig (product development and field R&D), Reed Trusty (sales and marketing), Bo Rhea (recreational seed and wildlife management), and Chris McCracken (cover crops development).
