Global Cotton Demand Remains Strong

The global demand for cotton all over the world is good, in the opinion of Wallace Darneille, president and CEO of Lubbock based Plains Cotton Cooperative Association (PCCA).
Speaking earlier this week at the 2013 Cotton Achievement Award luncheon in Lubbock, Texas, Wallace said that the stockpiling of cotton in China has been going on for a while.
“It hasn’t been a recipe for disaster,” Darneille said. Although China has started selling its reserves on Nov. 28, China is buying more than selling, he added. The Chinese cotton being sold now is older crop and of low quality.
Globally, cotton demand remains good and prices are decent. During his speech, Darneille emphasized the importance of innovation in the cotton industry, which is what helps U.S. cotton growers produce consistent quality cotton year after year.
This year, the Cotton Grower Achievement Award – given by Cotton Grower magazine – went to Floydada, Texas-based producer Eddie Smith, who became the 44th recipient of this annual award.
