ICA Bremen Opens New Cotton Testing Laboratory

ICA Bremen has opened a new cotton testing laboratory to help meet the growing demands of the global cotton and textile industry.

Based at the Bremen Cotton Exchange Building, the new laboratory – which is operated in cooperation between ICA Bremen and the Bremen Fibre Institute (FIBRE) – includes upgraded facilities for pre-conditioning and conditioning of samples, improved capability to handle large orders and bigger volumes of samples, and the capacity to perform instrument testing and manual classing in close proximity.

Instrumentation for HVI testing, AFIS testing, stickiness testing and gravimetric trash content determination – as well as testing equipment for other natural fibers such as wool and flax/hemp – are currently utilized by the lab. Added space in the facility will also allow addition of more testing equipment in the future.

The ICA Bremen collection of world cotton standards will continue to be held in a separate room near the lab.

“As the leading institution for HVI testing, it is our obligation to ensure that we provide the highest standards possible,” said ICA Bremen Director Jens Lukazcik. “We are very proud that this new lab will, once again, raise the bar and set another new level of excellence in HVI testing.”
