O’Leary Announces Retirement
April 1, 2012 Cotton Incorporated’s Agricultural and Environmental Research Division manages over 400 research projects annually.
In addition to being active project managers, each team member is a respected voice among their peers within their scientific disciplines.
Dr. Pat O’Leary has been one of these voices for almost 20 years. She announced her intention to retire several months back and after an in-depth search, Dr. Ryan Kurtz has been selected as Cotton Incorporated’s new Director of Agricultural Research, Entomology.
The research legacy left by Dr. O’Leary includes her work with the University of Arkansas to develop COTMAN, the Crop Management Seminars & Workshops, and discovery of the use of “eugenol,” to enhance the boll weevil pheromone “grandlure” in boll weevil traps.
Dr. O’Leary’s accomplishments, many of which have led to patents, will forever be stepping stones to future entomological successes.
Dr. Kurtz will work with O’Leary over the next few months until he becomes familiar with her duties. I hope you will join me as I thank Dr. O’Leary for her many years of service to Cotton Incorporated and the U.S. cotton industry. I welcome Dr. Kurtz as he works to continue the tradition of excellence in our Agriculture and Environmental Research Division.
