Nufarm is introducing Panther SC herbicide, a new broad-spectrum herbicide for use in cotton, corn, soybeans and peanuts.
Panther SC – the first liquid formulation of flumioxazin available in the United States – provides excellent residual control of tough broadleaf weeds such as marestail, Palmer amaranth, kochia and waterhemp.
“Panther SC gives crop producers a lot of flexibility in terms of application timing,” says Jerome Kovar, marketing manager for agricultural row crops with Nufarm. “It can be used in a fall burndown application, applied early preplant for burndown before planting, or applied preplant or pre-emerge for residual control in Roundup Ready systems. And, because Panther SC has flexible rotation options, growers can fit its use to the crop rotation that maximizes profits.”
Panther SC acts quickly on a broad spectrum of annual broadleaf and grass weeds, including most broadleaf weeds that are resistant to glyphosate. It provides long lasting residual control to help keep fields clean and enhances the speed of control on a broader weed spectrum in labeled burndown programs. The new liquid formulation also makes mixing and loading faster and easier.
The product can be applied pre-emergence on soybeans and peanuts, and can also be applied to cotton in post-directed applications using a hooded or shielded spray unit. Application timing in corn is seven to 30 days prior to planting, depending on the application rate and rainfall.
“The extremely wet spring we’ve had in much of the country has made it difficult to control weeds effectively this year,” explains Dr. Bob Bruss, technical services manager with Nufarm. “Many growers will be re-evaluating their weed control program to clean up troublesome weeds early in the season, in case weather delays or even prevents any post-emergence herbicide applications next year. Panther SC gives those growers a very effective, flexible, convenient herbicide option for burndown, preplant and pre-emergence herbicide programs.”
