October 10 Deadline for Public Comments on Roundup Ready Xtend Crop System Plants

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has announced that the public comment period on its draft environmental impact statement (DEIS) for genetically engineered (GE) cotton and soybean plants developed by Monsanto Company will remain open through October 10, 2014.

This comment period is part of the approval and registration process for Monsanto’s Roundup Ready Xtend Crop System.

The DEIS evaluates the potential environmental impacts of GE cotton resistant to the herbicides dicamba and glufosinate, and soybeans resistant to dicamba. This opportunity is being provided in response to stakeholder requests to provide additional time for comments.

APHIS will consider all public comments received on or before October 10, 2014. Notice of this comment period closing date will be published in the Federal Register in the near future.

Comments can be submitted electronically to the USDA docket on the Regulations.gov website, using docket number APHIS-2013-0043.
