Research Shows Polyester Athletic Wear Has an Odor Problem
Folks in the cotton industry can be a proud, protective group. Now, apparently, when they say polyester stinks, they have the research to back the statement up.
According to a post in Sourcing Journal, a new report published by the American Society for Microbiology shows that polyester clothing smells worse than cotton after intensive exercise, because odor-causing bacteria grow better on the synthetic fabric.
Since activewear – which is becoming more popular – is largely made up of synthetics, the article suggests that consumers may want to lean more toward cotton for workout wear. Cotton Incorporated, says the author, is doing its part to increase cotton’s share of the athletic wear market.
