Value Of Broadband Recognized

We were prompted to ask this question after spotting a story in the Washington Post about the deterrent that cost would be to potential subscribers of broadband internet. The Post quoted a study by the Pew Internet & American Life Project, which found that one-third of Americans not currently using a broadband service would find the cost too high even if it were available in their area.

According to our informal reader poll, when considering their home internet service, 45% of broadband users feel the price they pay is a good value for what they get in return. About a third feel the cost is a bit too high, and 11% feel the cost is way too high.

President Obama expressed a desire to earmark dollars for rural broadband development as part of the stimulus package – if it comes to pass, it would seem that rural America would put greater access to broadband to good use.
