Webcast Focuses on Bollworm Management in Bt Cotton

Bollworms are beginning to exhibit resistance to some transgenic (Bt) varieties of cotton, which prompts the need for supplemental insecticides to minimize losses.

A new webcast – “Changing Bt Technologies and Bollworm Management in Bt Cotton” – has been added to the Focus on Cotton series to help cotton growers, consultants, and other industry experts monitor the potential impact of bollworm populations and determine when additional treatments may be needed.

The 53-minute talk by David Kerns, associate professor at Louisiana State University, provides information to help users thoroughly scout for bollworms and plant injury, identify critical infestation and injury thresholds, and calculate the potential benefits of insecticide treatments.

The Focus on Cotton series is made available by the Plant Management Network and Cotton Incorporated, and contains more than 40 webcasts on various aspects of cotton crop management, including agronomic practices, crop protection and ag engineering. The presentations are accessible online at any time.

The resource also features a newly improved Cotton Extension Search tool, where users can conveniently search for extension resources across all U.S. land-grant universities serving cotton producers.
