Webcast Offers Tips to Minimize Pest Management Impact on Bees

Managed honeybee hives are often placed near cotton and other agricultural fields, which means that growers and beekeepers must work together to minimize any potential adverse conditions that might impact either group.

A new webcast – titled Mitigating Insect Management Effects on Pollinators – has been added to the Focus on Cotton online series from the Plant Management Network and Cotton Incorporated.

This 10-minute talk by Scott Stewart, professor and Row Crops IPM Specialist at the University of Tennessee, provides information to help beekeepers and agricultural pest managers improve communication and coordination, select appropriate locations for hive placement, properly time pesticide applications to minimize potential pollinator exposure, and look for and follow pollinator protection statements and labeling.

This webcast is part of the Focus on Cotton series made available by the Plant Management Network and Cotton Incorporated. The Focus on Cotton series contains more than 40 webcasts on various aspects of cotton crop management, including agronomic practices, crop protection and ag engineering. The presentations are accessible online at any time.

The resource also features a newly improved Cotton Extension Search tool, where users can conveniently search for extension resources across all U.S. land-grant universities serving cotton producers.
