Dates Set for NC Cotton Meetings and Mandatory Auxin Training

The North Carolina State Extension cotton team has scheduled a series of cotton production meetings across the state, as well as special training sessions regarding best management practices for use of the new auxin herbicides.

“We currently have several cotton production meetings slated across the state from January 31 through February 27,” says Guy Collins, NCSU Extension cotton specialist. “These meetings will include the latest applied research and extension recommendations regarding cotton agronomics, variety selection, and insect and weed control.”

Growers are urged to contact their local county extension agent for details about these production meetings.

The auxin herbicide training sessions are mandatory for growers intending to use the new dicamba and 2,4-D herbicide products in the 2017 season and beyond. Thirty-six sessions – conducted by Drs. Alan York, David Jordan and Wes Everman – will be held across the state from January 30 to March 23.

A listing of the auxin training dates and locations is available online.

“Many, but not all, of the auxin trainings will occur on the same day as the local cotton production meeting,” adds Collins. “In those instances, the auxin training and production meeting will occur consecutively, allowing growers to attend both.

“It is important to note that the auxin trainings are not exclusive only to cotton producers, as they apply to soybean producers as well.”
