Hardwick to Lead NCC in ’09
March 11, 2009 Jay Hardwick, a Newellton, LA, cotton producer, was elected chairman of the National Cotton Council (NCC) for 2009. He served as the NCC’s vice chairman in 2008 and succeeds Larry McClendon, a Marianna, AR, producer and ginner.
“Jay has a long record of outstanding service to the National Cotton Council and the cotton industry,” said McClendon. “We are extremely fortunate that Jay has agreed to answer the industry’s call to serve as Council Chairman in 2009.”
The NCC’s vice chairman for 2009 is Eddie Smith, a Floydada, TX, cotton producer.
Hardwick’s Somerset Plantation farming operation in northeast Louisiana, adjacent to the Mississippi River, includes cotton, corn, grain sorghum, soybeans and wheat.
Hardwick, a former chairman of the NCC’s American Cotton Producers, currently serves as secretary of Cotton Incorporated.
“I want to thank the members of the National Cotton Council for this tremendous honor,” said Hardwick. “As Chairman of the National Cotton Council, I will do my best to represent all segments of the industry. With the help of a united cotton industry, made possible by the Council, I look forward to addressing the issues before us.” Hardwick is also vice president of the Louisiana Cotton Warehouse Association and of the Newellton Gin Company. He is a director of Tensas Warehouse, Tensas State Banks’ Farm and Livestock Credit and the Tensas Concordia Soil and Water Conservation District. He is a past president of the Louisiana Cotton Producers Association.
