India Cotton Production

India is estimated to have produced 32.5 million bales in the last marketing year that ended on September 30, 2011.

In the current marketing year, that runs from October 2011 to this September 2012, estimates are that 35.5 million bales will be produced.

B.A. Patel, Joint Textile Commissioner, in charge of cotton in the Ministry of Textiles, addressed the matter after the recent Cotton Advisory Board of India’s meeting.

According to Patel, the board also projected acreage for the same season to be  29.9 million acres, up from 27.52 million in the last marketing year.
A well-known cotton trader, who wished to remain anonymous, said India will produce at least 35 million bales in this marketing year.
