Lingering effects from the 2022 crop and uncertainty about market prices and input costs are dampening prospects for U.S. cotton acres in 2023.
USDA’s June 30 Planted Acres report showed that cotton growers planted an estimated 12.5 million acres of upland and Pima cotton in 2022 – up 11% from 2021.
USDA’s Prospective Plantings report for the 2022 crop year estimates a total cotton planted area of 12.2 million acres – up 9% from 2021.
