Bayer Launches GlyTol
February 22, 2010 Bayer CropScience announced in New Orleans that it will release its first two GlyTol varieties under its FiberMax brand this year and a new biological seed treatment for control of nematodes will follow next year.
GlyTol is a proprietary glyphosate-tolerant trait developed by Bayer. With its wide application window and optimal crop tolerance for over-the-top applications of glyphosate, Bayer says GlyTol offers cotton growers more freedom in their weed-management decisions, and more independence for their operation.

Bayer announced late last year that agreements with three companies to begin work on drought- and stress-tolerant technologies had been reached.
Also, Bayer will launch VOTiVO, a revolutionary new biocontrol seed treatment in 2011, with on-farm testing to begin this year so that growers will have an opportunity to take a first-hand look.
“VOTiVO will be unlike anything that’s on the market right now,” says product manager Paul Hewitt. “It makes use of a beneficial bacteria that renders nematodes irrelevant through biocontrol methods.”
Simply put, Hewitt says, VOTiVO creates a living barrier around plant roots so nematodes have limited access to feed. The safe, stable formulation allows endospores of the bacteria to be applied directly to the seed. When that seed is planted, the endospores are activated and VOTiVO begins its work.
VOTiVO provides enough protection to withstand early season nematode feeding, when damage potential is highest.
