2016 Mississippi Insect Control Guide Now Available

The Mississippi 2016 Insect Control Guide for Agronomic Crops is now available online, with hard copies available in January.

The guide was developed by Mississippi State University entomologists Angus Catchot, Jeff Gore, Don Cook and Fred Musser.

The authors note that key changes this year include the removal of pyrethroid insecticides for bollworm control in all crops due to resistance and poor control. This recommendation is not new for Mississippi, but has only been a “verbal” recommendation until now.

Another major change is the addition of a dynamic threshold for bollworm (podworms) in soybeans, based on a very large multistate project that allowed the authors to develop new thresholds that account for commodity costs and price of treatment for bollworms in reproductive stage soybeans.

Hard copies should be available in county Extension offices by the end of January.
