Meeting the Challenges of a Changing Insect Spectrum

Stink Bugs

When the spectrum of primary cotton insects began to change, stinkbugs in the Southeast and plant bugs in the Mid-South became more damaging.
AMVAC’s Bidrin is a standard in treatments for both.

“Bidrin is a great fit in the Southeast,” says Paul Vaculin, AMVAC marketing manager. “It’s great on all the species. Bidrin is the king. Bidrin is really good on some of the new species coming  in  – red-shouldered stinkbugs and red-banded stinkbugs.

“In the Mid-South and in the Delta, Bidrin is a key component of plant bug management programs. And it is a program approach; you have to use all of the various tools available, including neonicotinoids, Bidrin and acephate. It’s important for Bidrin to be in the rotation.”

A trade name that has been revived by AMVAC is Folex defoliant.

“Folex has been around a long time. The active ingredient just celebrated its 50th birthday last year,” Vaculin says. “It’s a core component of a tank-mix combination. It has flexible rates to address variable weather conditions.”
