Correct Nozzle Pressures Important in Xtend System

In his fourth blog on stewardship of the dicamba products XtendiMax and Engenia on Xtend crops, Larry Steckel adds some additional details to his previous information regarding nozzles.

“Dr. Bob Wolf, a leading expert on nozzles, wrote me after he read my last blog and stated that his research would suggest that the ideal pressure range to run TTI11004 nozzles is between 45 and 60 PSI,” says Steckel, University of Tennessee Extension weed specialist, in his blog. “I had suggested 30 to 60 PSI.

“Keep in mind the operating pressure range for a TTI11004 in the Spraying System catalog says 15 to 100 PSI,” he notes. “That information can be misleading. Just because the nozzles can be run at those pressures does not mean that they should be run at those pressures.”

Steckel notes that operating the TTI11004 nozzle above 60 PSI can produce a smaller ultra-coarse droplet and increase the amount of fines produced. If the pressure falls below 45 PSI, the spray pattern begins to fall apart. Either way, the result is inconsistent weed control.

More of Steckel’s updated comments on proper nozzle use can be found in his blog, which is available here.
