New Webcast Outlines Flag the Technology Program

A new webcast explaining a standardized system of using color-coded flags to designate different herbicide-tolerant technologies has been added to the Focus on Cotton online series from the Plant Management Network and Cotton Incorporated.

The “miss-application” of herbicides can be a costly mistake and has become increasingly likely as new herbicide tolerant technologies are being developed and used in close proximity to other fields.

The webcast – titled “Flag the Technology” – is presented by Bob Scott, Extension weed scientist and director of the Newport and Lonoke Extension centers at the University of Arkansas. The 16-minute presentation reviews the voluntary practice now being used in Arkansas to help applicators confirm which crops are tolerant to prescribed treatments and easily identify areas where drift may cause damage to adjacent, non-tolerant varieties.

During the webcast, Scott explains how growers and consultants can adopt the color-coding system to mark technologies, properly install flags farm-wide or only in problem areas, and understand the value and limitations of the program.

This webcast is part of the Focus on Cotton series made available by the Plant Management Network and Cotton Incorporated. The Focus on Cotton series contains more than 40 webcasts on various aspects of cotton crop management, including agronomic practices, crop protection and ag engineering. The presentations are accessible online at any time.
