Willmar Introduces New Hooded Sprayer to Combat Resistant Weeds

Willmar Fabrication introduces the 915 Hooded Sprayer, the industry’s newest weapon in the fight against resistant pigweed.

“The 915 Hooded Sprayer is the most effective equipment available for controlling resistant weeds that escape a residual herbicide program,” says Steve Claussen, president of Willmar Fabrication. “Cotton farmers across the south helped shape the design of this new spray hood, which allows for application of herbicides in the row middles to control escaped weeds while very effectively post-directing another herbicide in the row itself. Using the 915 Hooded Sprayer to control weeds will greatly reduce the need for hand-weeding crews.”

When compared to older-model hoods, the new 915 Hooded Sprayer has better control of herbicide spray, reducing the chance of spray escaping the hood and damaging the crop. An open front allows weeds to enter the hood and provides improved spray coverage with different herbicides. The sloped shape of the hood front permits crop limbs to flow around the hood body, reducing the chance of fruit damage.

Nozzles are spaced front to back and side to side for maximum weed coverage. Each nozzle has 50-mesh screens to reduce the chance of clogging. The longer hood design provides greater stability delivering more consistent post-direct applications. Mounting brackets are pre-punched for a 4, 5, and 7-inch toolbar. A down-pressure spring holds the hood in contact with the ground to lessen the potential of spray escaping or crop injury.

Other key features of the 915 Hooded Sprayer include:
• Greased hinges to reduce the chance of becoming rusted or frozen.
• Weed gathering bars are half an inch thick for added durability.
• Skids have a hardened surface for a longer life.
• Nozzle retention plate is attached to the hood with molded-in nuts to increase durability.
• Hoods can be ordered with a post-direct spray attachment kit.
• Toolbars are engineered for years of trouble-free service.
