McCain Is A Lock
I am here today to tell you that John McCain is a mortal lock to become the 44th President of the United States of America. When I am done, you will be a believer, too.

Is it because McCain now has a 5-point lead over Barack Obama in the latest Zombie International Poll among registered voters? Higher among likely voters? No.
Is it because McCain has effectively overcome Obama’s 9-point lead after Obama’s much ballyhooed sashay through Europe? Is Obama’s amazing loss of momentum a reason? Nu-uh.
In that Zoby poll, Obama has only a 2-point lead among women. Dick Morris says that a Democrat traditionally runs 12-15 points higher than a Republican among women. Remember Bill Clinton’s soccer moms? Well, they aren’t lining up for Obama quite as much (And speaking of the Clintons, it has been hypothesized that they are about to surreptitiously scuttle Obama. How can Hillary run for president in 2012 if Obama is an incumbent?) So are any of those reasons I know McCain will win. Naw.
Is it because one anonymous Democrat supporter of Obama said that with all the mess George Bush is leaving behind, Obama should have a 20-point lead over Bush’s friend McCain? Not even that. (Said another Democrat insider in an obvious basketball metaphor directed at Obama, who is said to be pretty fair at hoops: “Obama is good at shooting 3s, but McCain is on a 12-0 run.”)
So finally here’s the clincher for McCain: Each night for months, David Letterman has been asking his audience for a round of applause for each candidate. Three months ago, it was a tsunami for Obama. I mean, the place would erupt with applause for Obama. Back then, there were mostly snickers for McCain. Two months ago, the tsunami had turned to a tidal wave, but McCain was beginning to surf on it. Now McCain is rising on his own tide. To use sailing term, McCain is starting to tack to cover. That is, his sails are catching the wind, while blocking it from Obama. Applause, and all of those other things, have shifted to McCain.
So there you have it – it’s McCain in 2008. And I might add that Letterman’s poll is as accurate as any of the others. Remember you heard it here first.
