A Look Back at “King Cotton”

Those of us in the day-to-day business of cotton are too often focused on production, market prices, yields, insurance and farm programs, and numerous other details tied to the crop. That’s why sometimes we need a reminder – a look back, if you will – at cotton’s heritage, how we got where we are, and what it means to a broader audience.

Jennifer Boyd, writing for the Loris Scene and its website myhorrynews.com in South Carolina, traces the history of cotton and why it still deserves the title “King of the South.” It’s a good reminder for us all.
