The Industry’s first Bollgard II® XtendFlex® cotton variety with root-knot nematode (RKN) resistance and a high-performing early- to mid-maturity cotton variety were named to the Deltapine® Class of 17 in December.
Both new varieties, DP 1747NR B2XF and DP 1725 B2XF, were proven to perform by Deltapine New Product Evaluator (NPE) growers, who grew the varieties in large-acre plots under their own management systems in 2016. The growers’ evaluation and feedback were important to the selection of lines for commercial advancement.
DP 1747NR B2XF is the first Bollgard II XtendFlex variety that offers RKN resistance. The nematode resistance (NR) breeding trait provides season-long control to cotton plants by enabling strong root growth and reducing RKN populations in the soil profile. In NPE plots and Deltapine market development trials, DP 1747NR B2XF outyielded both DP 1454NR B2RF and DP 1558NR B2RF, two standards for yield potential in RKNresistant varieties. DP 1747NR B2XF has shown comparable yield potential to the best-yielding commercial varieties on the market today in fields with RKN pressure, as well as in fields without RKN pressure. Its best fit is in the Southern High Plains and Southern Rolling Plains.
DP 1725 B2XF is an early- to mid-maturity variety that offers improved fiber quality potential over DP 1522 B2XF and has shown an improvement in yield potential as well. It fits well in South Texas.
An added benefit of both DP 1747NR B2XF and DP 1725 B2XF is the weed control benefits of Bollgard II XtendFlex technology, an integral component of the Roundup Ready® Xtend Crop System.
Texas Growers Post High Yields with New DP 1725 B2XF
Levi Burns was recognized for making the highest yield in South Texas with DP 1725 B2XF, one of the new Deltapine cotton varieties in the Class of 17. Burns, who farms in Harlingen, TX, averaged 2,533 pounds per acre with the new variety.
Tim Neufeld was also recognized for making the highest yield with DP 1725 B2XF in West Texas. Neufeld, who farms in Seminole, TX, averaged 1,644 pounds per acre with the new variety.
Burns and Neufeld received the yield awards from Deltapine Cotton Products Manager Keylon Gholston at the 2016 Deltapine NPE Summit held December 10 in Amelia Island, FL.
