Cotton Grower® Magazine Launches TraitTalk™ Initiative
The U.S. cotton industry was the first market to experience the biotechnology effect full force. In the span of a decade, everything from crop protection input rates to tillage to scouting regimens has changed.
Growers have enjoyed the benefits of first-generation biotech traits, but there are many questions arising as seed companies prepare to roll out second-generation traits and new trait stacks.
In response, Cotton Grower® magazine is starting an industry-wide dialog on cotton traits with the launch of TraitTalkTM, an initiative focused on addressing the needs and concerns of growers, consultants and ag retailers regarding cotton trait technology.
"The effect of biotechnology on the cotton industry has been incredible," says Paul Schrimpf, Cotton Grower Group Editor and manager of TraitTalk. "But we are finding that growers still have a lot of questions. With this initiative, Cotton Grower magazine wants to open up the lines of communication about the benefits and challenges of this technology, and work to give cotton growers the information they need to make informed, profitable decisions."
Powered by Cotton Grower and sponsored by Bollgard II® and Roundup Ready Flex®, the multifaceted TraitTalk initiative will ensure growers get the information they want, the way they want it. TraitTalk includes:
- A new Web site, www.TraitTalk.com, will be the always-on resource for trait related information through articles, interviews, video, and an expert question and answer area. TraitTalk.com launched October 2007.
- TraitTalk eNews, a twice-monthly information update delivered right to your desktop.
- TraitTalk Monthly, featured in the pages of Cotton Grower magazine.
- And in selected cities this winter, TraitTalk Forums will be held where growers can get immediate answers to pressing trait questions.
"Roundup Ready Flex and Bollgard II have resulted in improved weed and worm control for cotton producers along with greater productivity, flexibility and time savings," said Walt Mullins, Monsanto cotton traits technical manager. "As a company focused solely on agriculture, we look forward to participating in TraitTalk to help cotton producers maximize their success with our second-generation cotton technology."
