From May 28 to July 5, in Bremen, Germany, registrants will attend a series of modules delivered by industry experts from ICA Bremen and the Bremen Fibre Institute (FIBRE). Karsten Froese of ICA Bremen, explains: “This training offers a deeper insight into the quality evaluation of raw cotton. It offers a unique chance for participants to receive practical training in different kinds of quality measurements. They will learn about the scope of manual classing and instrument testing and improve their experience with different quality parameters. Participants will also receive personal attention to meet the individual needs of their firms.” The program is aimed at individuals who wish to gain an in-depth knowledge in cotton classing and testing. Delegate places are limited to 12 so early booking is advised. A contract signed in October of 2011 established the launch of the ICA Bremen International Quality Testing and Research Centre. The facility is fully operational and able to offer its expert services to the global cotton community. Operating from existing state of the art laboratory facilities in Bremen, ICA Bremen combines the global reach of the ICA with the quality and expertise of Bremer Baumwollboerse and the Bremen Fibre Institute to position itself as a center of excellence. The 2012 training covered the following modules: Classing modules - influence of cotton planting up to bale pressing on grading - overview and evaluation of visual quality parameters - introduction to universal standards system and world standards - introduction to visual grading and staple pulling - training of visual classing of US standards - visual classing of standards of different origins - typical parameters of different important origins - classing various origins - use of value differences Laboratory modules - cotton fibers and fiber properties - importance of fiber properties in cotton production and processing - cotton properties and testing instruments - influences on test results - verification of instrument test results - cotton testing on Uster HVI 1000 - cotton testing on Premier ART2 - cotton testing on additional testing instruments
