Based on a [*Mississippi Business Journal* report](http://msbusiness.com/blog/2014/06/23/cotton-acreage-expected-soar-40-2013/), cotton acres in Mississippi are up nearly 40 percent this year, leaving the state’s cotton producers feeling optimistic about the potential for the crop.

Despite early season weather and insect stress, the crop appears to be off to a good start. But some weed control challenges remain.
