According to [USDA’s Crop Progress report for the week ending May 1](https://downloads.usda.library.cornell.edu/usda-esmis/files/8336h188j/5712nb460/vt151p581/prog1922.pdf), 16% of the U.S. cotton crop has been planting – up four percentage points in the past week and one percentage point ahead of the 5-year average for this date. Planting is now reported in 14 of the 15 cotton-producing states, with eight states (AZ, AR, CA, KS, LA, NC, TX, and VA) currently ahead of their respective 5-year averages. State percentages of planting currently range from 3% (KS and TN) up to 95% (CA).
