Upland cotton area is estimated at 11.8 million acres – up 19% from 2016 – while American Pima area is estimated at 252,000 acres, up 30% from 2016. Acreage increases were reported for all cotton growing states, with the exception of Florida, which showed a nearly 13% drop in cotton acres for 2017. All areas, by region, showed healthy growth in planted acres over 2016 numbers: - **Southeast (AL, FL, GA, NC, SC, VA):** Up 18%, from 2.2 million acres to 2.6 million acres. - **Mid-South (AR, LA, MS, MO, TN):** Up 21%, from 1.5 million acres to 1.8 million acres. - **Southwest (KS, OK, TX):** Up 19%, from 6.0 million acres to 7.1 million acres. - **West (AZ, CA, NM):** Up 32%, from 408,000 acres to 537,000 acres.
