In mid-May, Vani Hari – a blogger known as the “Food Babe” – posted her opinions proclaiming cotton as the “world’s dirtiest crop” and touting the potential dangers of cottonseed and cottonseed oil in the food chain.

Recognizing Hari’s reputation as a fear monger and opportunist with little to no regard for scientific facts, Cotton Incorporated went on the record and turned her statements inside out to refute every claim being made.

*Forbes* noted Cotton Incorporated’s actions and applauded them (and their “bolls of steel”) in a recent article, praising the organization for taking a positive, yet defensive, stand against the Food Babe where many other companies have not. It’s an interesting look at what can happen when facts confront exploitation of public fear.
