Consider Options for Fall Herbicide Applications

As combines and pickers clear the 2014 crop from the fields, growers may be considering fall applications of residual herbicides to help prevent winter annual weed emergence.

Tom Barber, University of Arkansas Extension weed specialist, suggests that fall applications may be ideal for control of glyphosate-resistant Italian ryegrass, which is rapidly becoming a problem in many fields. But a good fall cover crop, followed by an early spring burndown with residual herbicides, is still probably the best option for winter annuals.
