Cotton Injury from Post-Applied Residuals in Wet Conditions

Herbicide burn on cotton may be more likely in three-way post-applied applications, especially when soils are wet.

With all the GlyTol/Liberty Link and Roundup XtendFlex cotton planted in the Mid-South this spring, Larry Steckel expected more use of three-way tank mixes of Liberty and Roundup plus Dual or Warrant. But he warns growers that when all the surfactant from Liberty and Roundup is added to the oil of Dual or Warrant, burn on cotton is much more likely, especially when the soil is wet.

“We appear to be guaranteed that for the next week,” says Steckel, University of Tennessee Extension weed specialist.

He has outlined guidelines to help manage injury issues. Check them out in his blog post.
