ACSA International Cotton Institute

The 2008 American Cotton Shippers Association (ACSA) International Cotton Institute concluded its eight week program in July, with a graduating class of 46. Participants came from all over the world and all stops on the supply chain to be a part of the program, which is designed to offer basic insight into the aspects of the worldwide cotton industry. The staff of Cotton International challenged these students to participate in our annual Cotton Essay Contest. Students were asked to elaborate on their knowledge of a specific country’s cotton industry, a nation of their choosing, and to cite that country’s unique challenges and strategies in the global cotton market. The first place award was given to Charoline Tirtadarma of Spinwell International for her essay on Indonesia. Second place honors were given to Irina V. Brown of Dunavant Enterprises for her essay on Brazil, and Beau Stephenson of Multicotton USA won third place for his essay on the U.S. industry.
