NCC Supports Buying American Cotton Act

The National Cotton Council (NCC) strongly supports the Buying American Cotton Act introduced by Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS).

In a statement released May 28, the organization says the forward-thinking legislation is designed to enhance the demand for U.S.-grown cotton and U.S.-manufactured cotton products through tax incentives.

NCC Chairman Patrick Johnson, cotton producer from Tunica, MS, states, “The Buying American Cotton Act is transformative for our industry. By capitalizing on the traceability of U.S. cotton and the purchasing power of American consumers, this bill will drive the preference for domestically produced cotton and cotton products. The transferable tax credits will encourage businesses to opt for U.S. cotton, strengthening our agricultural sector and creating more jobs.

“I want to thank Senator Hyde-Smith for her foresight in introducing this legislation.”

The NCC appreciates Senators John Boozman (R-AR), Katie Britt (R-AL) and Roger Marshall (R-KS) for cosponsoring the bill and looks forward to additional cosponsors in the coming weeks.
