Lower, stagnant market prices and continuing economic and geopolitical concerns are pushing U.S. cotton acres into a holding pattern for 2024.
USDA’s June 30 Planted Acres report showed that U.S. cotton growers have planted an estimated 11.1 million acres of upland and Pima cotton in 2023 – a 19% decrease from 2023.
USDA’s Prospective Plantings report for 2023 shows a total cotton planted area of 11.3 million acres – down 18% from 2022 acres.
