All-Tex

All-Tex is a family owned and managed cottonseed business in Levelland, TX, that has carved out a 2.89% market share in Texas.

All-Tex’s leading seller is Apex B2RF, a Bollgard II/Roundup Ready Flex variety. “2009 is the fourth year I’ve planted Apex,” says John David Duckatnik of Lubbock. “The first year planted it, it performed as good or better than the variety planted next to it. I’ve been expanding my acreage since then.”

Epic RF is a Roundup Ready Flex variety that has been one of the area’s top yielders. “Epic has worked well on dryland because it’s drought tolerant,” Ray Johnston of Littlefield, TX, says. “The yield potential and grades have been good. My loan value on the irrigated was 57 cents last year.”

A Bollgard II/Round Ready Flex numbered variety that has not been named yet is 65207. “65207 is about a week later than Apex, but it’s still a medium-maturing variety,” says All-Tex general manager Cody Poage. “This one is going to be good for Lubbock south and all the way to the Rio Grande Valley.”

Although 95% of the All-Tex varieties are genetically modified seed, the company continues to sell conventional seed to meet the needs of several dryland and South Texas farmers. Some companies have stopped marketing conventional seed due to custom delinting concerns and decreased demand. However, All-Tex is well aware that while the market may be small, demand for conventional seed still exists and is needed by farmers.
