When it comes down to it, most growers will attest that yield pays the bills. In some growing regions where corn and soybean acres have trended upward in recent years, plant bug populations migrating from those crops into cotton are greater than they were in past seasons. Considering the historical development of resistance to pyrethroids and organophosphates, the need for an effective insect control product has increased.
Protecting yield starts with protecting young cotton squares and preventing boll shed. Spray thresholds may be more aggressive during the early season when cotton square numbers are lower. Optimally, maintaining a square retention rate of 80% should be the goal. Cotton trial data confirms an average advantage of 37 lint pounds per acre when using Transform WG insecticide against an untreated check. 1
When it comes to protecting yield potential from sap feeding insects, no other product on the market is as effective as Transform® WG insecticide with Isoclast® active. It should be the go-to plant bug control solution for any effective insect pest management program. Isoclast active, a distinct chemistry, is the only member of the Group 4C class of insecticides. It has minimal impact on most beneficial insects, does not flare mites or aphids and is effective at low use rates.
The unmatched effectiveness of Transform WG insecticide controls sap-feeding pests through contact and ingestion. The translaminar movement of the active ingredient means it is effective at reaching those pests out of the direct line of spray and provides excellent residual control. Growers get excellent knockdown and a needed rotation option for their resistance management programs.
A well-planned integrated pest management (IPM) program should include the use of resistant varieties, managing the crop for earliness, and making timely crop protection applications when scouting confirms pest thresholds have been met. Growers should consult with their crop adviser or regional Corteva Agriscience representative familiar with your growing region to evaluate current or previous pest pressure to determine if modifying a specific pest threshold is warranted.
Kyle Colwell, territory manager for Corteva Agriscience, understands the importance of a well-planned and strategically directed IPM program. The farmers he works with also understand the importance and need for a proven and reliable insecticide, such as Transform® WG insecticide with Isoclast® active when plant bug populations exceed threshold levels.
“Transform WG insecticide is the standard by which entomologists compare all other insecticides. When any new plant bug control products are evaluated in field trials, they are measured against Transform WG insecticide, because it is hands down the best foliar plant bug material on the market today,” Colwell says. “I always remind farmers that penetrating cotton’s canopy with their application is critical for thorough control. Follow label directions, but more importantly, their first insecticide product choice should be Transform WG insecticide.”
