Constructed as a turn-key project by Lummus Corporation of Savannah, GA, the LCG facility is the first all-new gin plant to be constructed within a 50-mile radius of Lubbock in the last 25 years. It is the largest new gin installation in the world for 2009.

The new gin plant has been configured initially for an hourly capacity of 90 bales-per-hour, with a daily throughput target of 1,500 bales per day.

It has been equipped with two stages of drying and seed cotton precleaning, featuring split (two identical lines) 144-inch wide Inclined Hot Air Cleaners with dual Series 2000 3-Saw Stick Machines in the first stage and 144-inch wide Inclined Hot Air Cleaners with Trashmaster Cleaners in the second stage.

The ginning/lint cleaning system will be composed of five identical lines, each with a Consolidated 222-Saw Gin and Feedmaster Feeder, Lummus Super-Jet centrifugal lint cleaner, and two Lummus Sentinel II saw-type lint cleaners (in a tandem arrangement). Dual lint flues will carry the cleaned lint to two 72-inch diameter Consolidated Moisture Conditioning battery condensers, which will feed two Lummus Premier III Dor-Les presses, each press configured for 60 bales per hour capacity.

While the new plant, as currently built, will be the highest capacity single-site ginning complex in the state of Texas, it has been planned for growth. The configuration of the facility is designed in what is referred to as a “6 Less 1” layout, which means that the foundation and electrical components of the civil works have been constructed to facilitate the addition of a third line of two-stage drying and precleaning and a sixth ginning/lint cleaning line. When fully equipped in the future, Lubbock Cotton Growers will be a 120 bales per hour – or 2,000+ bales per day – complex, making it the second largest gin plant in the world.
