Field to Market

Cotton Incorporated has been working cooperatively with a unique group of organizations in a consortium called “Field to Market Alliance” to create opportunities across the agricultural supply chain for continuous improvements in productivity, environmental quality and human well-being.

The group provides collaborative leadership engaged in industry-wide dialogue which is grounded in science and open to the full range of technology choices.

A unique educational tool called the “Fieldprint Calculator” was create from this alliance. The calculator will increase in scope and value over time; currently it can be used to provide information to extend the findings from Cotton Incorporated’s Natural Resource Survey conducted in 2008. The calculator can assess how some of your operational decisions affect your farm’s overall sustainability performance. Once you input relevant information from your operation, the calculator tells you how your current land use, energy use, water use, greenhouse gas emissions and soil loss compares with state and national averages.

A key goal of this group is to encourage producers of all crops to improve the sustainability of their farm through the implementation of more sustainable farming decisions and practices. Find out more about this innovative alliance and the calculator by logging on to http://www.fieldtomarket.org
