PCG, Deltapine Announce Winners of the Cotton Commercial Contest

Monsanto Company – on behalf of Deltapine cotton – and the Plains Cotton Growers, Inc. are pleased to announce Lubbock-Cooper FFA and Randall High School in Amarillo as the winners of the Deltapine Cotton Commercial Contest. The schools produced and promoted videos spotlighting the regional cotton industry, the numerous ways cotton is used and its importance to their community. The contest, designed to motivate students to visit with cotton industry stakeholders in their area, was sponsored by Deltapine and the Plains Cotton Growers, Inc. Deltapine will make a $2,500 donation to both Lubbock-Cooper FFA and Randall High School.

In addition to learning about cotton, the contest was also a lesson in communications. Those who participated were encouraged to solicit as many votes as possible by sharing their videos on Facebook and other social media outlets, as well as create press releases and other promotional materials to share with school and local media outlets.

The winning submission from Lubbock-Cooper was also selected to run on television in the West Texas viewing area during the month of April. The winning videos are available for viewing online by visiting www.CottonVideoContest.com.

Winners were selected by factoring in the number of online votes each video received, along with judging from a group of Deltapine representatives and Plains Cotton Growers. The winners were presented with their donations at the annual Plains Cotton Grower breakfast at the Texas Cotton Ginners Association trade show on March 30, 2012.

“Deltapine is proud to support the FFA and high schools in Texas,” said Dallan Maas, Area Business Manager for Deltapine. “As part of our continued commitment to Texas, we feel this contest is a great opportunity for area youth to learn more about, and drive awareness of cotton’s importance in their community while learning more about communications strategies and tactics along the way.”

The contest was open to FFA chapters and high schools in West Texas and resulted in $5,000 in combined cash donations to the school and chapter.
