El Niño Is Coming

There’s a 70 percent chance that El Niño could impact U.S. agriculture this year. But how long and how strong will determine how positive its effects could be.

El Niño is likely to be a factor for U.S. agriculture this year. Unfortunately, says Jeff Doran, senior business meteorologist with Planalytics, it’s difficult to say how much of a factor it will be.

In a June 26 webinar, “El Niño is Coming! Everything You Never Needed to Know About El Niño (and a few things you should),” Doran says there’s a 70 percent likelihood that the U.S. will be shifting into El Niño, and may already be doing so. But how long and how strong will determine whether it will be positive for agricultural markets.
