More than 300 participants from Italy, Germany, Japan, Thailand, Sudan and Egypt attended the First International Cotton Conference, conducted by the Egyptian Cotton Research Institute.
The two-day conference – sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture, Agriculture Research Center, USTER, Loptex and Aqualab – focused on “Challenges to Sustainable Cotton Production and Quality.”
Conference speakers – including Dr. Abd Elmonem El Bana, president of Agriculture Research Center; Dr. Mahmoud El Bagoury, chairman of CATGO and the government commissioner at ALCOTEXA; and Dr. Amal Saber, director of the Cotton Research Institute – covered multiple topics such as:
- Improving cotton production and marketing
- Contamination in cotton
- Future vision for Egyptian cotton
- The role of quarantine in protecting agriculture products
- The effect of climate changes on growth and yield of cotton
- An outlook for cotton ginning in Egypt
- International activities for standardization and harmonization
- Measuring cotton quality
- Measuring neps and trash inside cotton.
