Market Forum: “Commodity Markets and Financial Reform Legislation”

The highly anticipated Market Forum panel discussion will address the commodity markets in general. It will also focus on the ramifications of the volatile price swings all commodities have experienced recently. At press time, the agricultural commodity markets are moving higher thanks to wet weather in the Midwest region of the United States, which is delaying plantings for several crops. While experts predict the markets will generally trend higher over the longer term, it’s likely to be a bumpy ride, with multiple corrections.

There also will be a discussion of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, the most sweeping change to financial legislation in the United States since the Great Depression. Passed on the heels of the late-2000s recession, the Act represents a significant change in the American financial regulatory environment. With such broad applicability, this legislation impacts all Federal financial regulatory agencies and almost every aspect of the U.S. financial services industry.
