Cotton Association of India Announces Fall 2011 Meeting

Cotton and textile professionals from across the globe have some new dates on their calendars to circle: Sept. 28 through Oct. 1, 2011. On those days, the Cotton Association of India (CAI) will hold a major international meeting in Mumbai, according to Dhiren Sheth, the association’s president.

“This event will have many purposes, one of which is to celebrate the beginning of India’s cotton year, which runs from October 1 through September 30,” Sheth told Cotton International during an exclusive interview held in the United Arab Emirates during the International Cotton Association’s “Dubai 2011” event.

Another major factor in deciding the timing of the event is the fact that there will be clarity around the size and quality of India’s crop–as well as what the government’s policy will be regarding cotton exports.

“Given its standing as one of the most important nations in the world of cotton, it’s appropriate that India host an event of this magnitude, and as president of the Cotton Association of India, I would like to extend a personal invitation to all of our cotton and textile colleagues around the globe,” Sheth said. “We want everyone to be there: international merchants, representatives from textile mills, and professionals involved in cotton research and promotion.

“Given the volatility and uncertainty we’re experiencing in the market, it’s more important than ever that we share our thoughts and ideas with our colleagues from around the world, and the Cotton Association of India is proud and excited to provide a dynamic and powerful forum for those discussions.”

Sheth expects more than 500 people to attend and says the event will consist of both educational sessions and networking events. Cotton International will continue to report on the details as soon as they are announced.
