Fiber Innovation: Zeal Optics Unveils Cotton Bioplastic Sunglasses

Zeal's Cotton Sunglasses

ZEAL Optics has announced the release of the world’s first cotton biodegradable sunglasses made from 100% U.S. cotton. The eyewear, named Ace, were designed in Boulder, Colorado and crafted by Italy-based Mazzucchelli. Produced from 100% American cotton fiber, Ace has patent-pending plant-based lenses that offer protection and prevention from several types of ultraviolet light as well as have the ability to identify and block negative light called High Energy Visible light. Furthermore, Ace’s lenses received the highest clarity rating of any lens in the outdoor market.

“ZEAL Optics has seen our ecological philosophy come to life in a revolutionary new product,” said company President John Sanchez. “Both Mazzuchelli and ZEAL are working together to create a product that will truly raise the bar on sustainability in the industry.”

All of ZEAL’s handmade eyewear highlights an industry-leading initiative to source sustainable materials for trend defining styles. Ace sunglasses, for example, degrades completely in 18 months if dropped in the ocean.

The Ace will be available worldwide on September 2. For more information on the ace and other eco-friendly styles that ZEAL has, go to www.zealoptics.com or check out the video at http://vimeo.com/71123559.
