Georgia Cotton Commisssion’s 2010 Producer Referendum Passes

The Georgia Cotton Commission’s programs, in existence since 1965, were reaffirmed for another three years through the producer referendum held February 4 through March 5, 2010. The referendum was passed by a 92 percent affirmative vote and represents resounding grower endorsement of our programs.

The Commission carefully looks after growers’ concerns by working closely with the National Cotton Council and Southern Cotton Growers to meet the constant obstacles presented to the cotton industry and agriculture as a whole. We take the stewardship of growers’ assessment dollars very seriously through our process to fund the most comprehensively relevant research and to facilitate carrying research findings back to all of the producers. Our consumer promotion and education activities are also carefully determined and planned to ensure an efficient and effective investment in these areas.

All of us with the Commission thank all of the cotton producers who took the time to vote and to keep us working for them. Chairman Louie Perry of Moultrie says it best, “Being involved with the Commission is very meaningful to our board members. Remember, we are also cotton producers who represent the growing areas of the state and have a first-hand feel for the needs concerning research and legislation. We appreciate the strong vote of confidence by our fellow producers and pledge to continue to focus on the challenges facing our industry.”

Questions and comments from producers about the Georgia Cotton Commission’s programs are welcome and encouraged at anytime. They may be directed to Richey Seaton, executive director in the Perry office at 478.988.4235, or gactn@windstream.net.
