ICA Bremen and Impetus Bioscience have signed a partnership to officially launch ICA Bremen’s new cotton DNA testing services which will be used to determine whether cotton contains genetically modified elements.
Germany’s Impetus Bioscience − a private company specializing in DNA analysis − will offer analytical tools for the identification of genetically modified cotton and the differentiation of cotton species.
“The traceability of cotton varieties in finished textiles is becoming increasingly important, with many retailers and labeling organizations looking for suitable and reliable analytical tools,” said ICA Bremen Managing Director Kai Hughes.
The method will also be useful in the differentiation of various cotton species such Pima and Gossypium Barbadense, he added.
Impetus Lab Manager Dr. Hermann Rüggeberg said: “We are convinced that ICA Bremen is the perfect partner to propagate our advanced analytical methods worldwide. We are looking forward to working with ICA Bremen and we expect with this partnership to enter into other interesting projects in the future.”
