Indian Cotton Association Demands Free Cotton Exports

The Cotton Association of India recently expressed that it demands free cotton exports immediately.

A press release issued on April 7 by the Mumbai-India based Cotton Association of India (CAI) has urged the Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, to allow free export of cotton from India immediately.

The Cotton Association of India in its plea to the Prime Minister of India has argued that even when India was a net cotton deficit country, it allowed cotton exports under Open General License (OGL). It is ironic, the group says, that restrictive policies are in place while India is currently a cotton surplus country.

The group is demanding an immediate lifting of the ban on cotton exports, and requesting for cotton export be brought under Open General License without any quantitative or other restrictions.

Currently, cotton export is put on hold by the Indian government.
