Indian Textile Ministry Gets New Chief

The Indian government reshuffled its cabinet on July 12. Mr. Anand Sharma, current Minister for Commerce and Industry has been given additional charge as the Minister of Textiles.

The previous textile minister Dayanidhi Maran resigned last week following allegations with regard to 2G spectrum allocations when he was the Telecom Minister of India.

Anand Sharma who will also look after the Ministry of Textiles in addition to Commerce Ministry champions free trade and he was against cotton export limits.

It will be interesting to see how the new cabinet minister handles cotton and yarn export policies with his leadership roles in two ministries with conflicting interests.
