Lubbock Ready for ICAC Conference

The City of Lubbock, the Organizing Committee and the Overton Hotel and Convention Center are ready to host the 69th Plenary Meeting.

Meeting registration and hotel reservations are proceeding smoothly. Transportation between the airport and hotels and to social events has been arranged. The social program for the meeting, the program for accompanying persons, a visit to USDA and Texas state research facilities near Lubbock, and an exceptional technical tour following the plenary meeting have all been arranged.

The Overton is a new hotel built to hold meetings the size of the ICAC plenary. Seating arrangements for the plenary meeting and breakout sessions, provisions for the audio/visual systems, the internet café and individual meeting rooms have each been mapped out, and menus for meals and breaks appropriate for an international conference of 500 people have been planned.

With a record crop forecast for the Texas High Plains (the region surrounding Lubbock encompassing 1.5 million hectares of cotton), the atmosphere for a successful world conference to discuss international cotton issues could not be more auspicious.

Registration and hotel reservations can be made on line at ICAC.org. The deadline for guaranteed availability and rates at the Overton Hotel is August 30. The U.S. Department of Agriculture is communicating with the Department of State to ensure the issuance of visas to all registered participants. Additional information about the meeting is available on the ICAC web site: http://www.icac.org.
