New Cheminova Chemistry to Help Control Herbicide Resistant Weeds

Cheminova Inc. has announced a new herbicide active ingredient – pethoxamid – to help growers manage herbicide-resistant weeds including Palmer amaranth, waterhemp and other important broadleaf and annual grass weeds.

Pethoxamid is a novel selective chloroacetamide. Classified as a Group 15 herbicide, pethoxamid works by inhibiting the germination of target weeds. It can be applied preemergence or postemergence.

“Cheminova is developing pethoxamid as a solo product and as an ingredient to be combined with a number of complementary herbicides,” said Mike Krull, Cheminova business development manager. “We will submit pethoxamid for registration in the U.S. and Canada this year, with expected commercialization in late 2017.”

Major U.S. and Canadian crops slated for labeled use include cotton, canola, corn, rice, soybeans and sunflowers.
